Build & Run

Girls and their mothers rise early on Saturday morning to attend the Build-and-Run program to exercise their mind and body. Participants are divided into two groups. One group builds the VEX robots in the middle of the plaza while the other group runs or walks around the perimeter of the plaza. The groups switch activities after the allotted time. CIMI volunteers manage this program on Saturday mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at the Brenda Lopez Plaza in San Jose, California. This program runs from June through November.

I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free
human being with an independent will.

Our History

CIMI was founded in 2012, and on April 20, 2013 hosted its first ever 5k race for women in Managua, Nicaragua. Cost was kept very low ($2 - $4 entry fee) to encourage more women to run. There were 254 participants and 95% of them finished the race. A woman with tears in her eyes came up to CIMI’s founder after the race and said, “Thank you so much for this race. I didn’t think I could do it.”
